Near death experience

Last night Robyn came home late from work because she had to do a training meeting.

Rod (with pretended nonchalance):  Nate had quite an experience fishing today.

Robyn (curious and a little worried):  Oh?  Nate, what happened?

Rod:  Nate, do you want to tell her?

Nate (subdued):  No.

Rod:  Well, as you know Nate and his friends went to Vivian Park up the canyon to do some fishing.  Ch---- had called his dad to come get them and while they were waiting C---- decided that they should try some ice fishing on the pond.  He walked out there and started to dig a hole in the ice then CRASH!  He fell through the ice.  Ch---- ran out to help him and CRASH!  HE fell through the ice too.

Robyn (to herself, eyes wide and hand over her mouth in disbelief):  I wish he would stop saying CRASH! my heart is going to burst out of my chest!

Rod (continuing): Nate tried to help by holding out his fishing pole to them.  Then CRASH!  He too fell through the ice.  A stranger saw what was happening and came to help.  He crawled out on the ice to them but it was too thin and HE fell through the ice too.  Nate said that there were two women on the side of the pond screaming for people to come help them.  After a minute or two Nate said that his arms and legs were getting numb, Ch--- was able to to help C--- and himself out of the water and the stranger was able to push Nate and himself out.  A couple of other men came over and took off their shirts and sweatshirts and gave them to the now drenched and shivering boys.  They lost cell phones and ipods and Nate's fishing pole, but they are okay.

Robyn rushes to Nate's side (suddenly noticing the big red scrapes on his legs and arms) and hugs him.

Later
Robyn (praying)  Thank you, Heavenly Father, for protecting my boy.  Please bless those kind strangers for their selflessness and courage in a crisis.
