Grocery shopping with Grace

In the cereal aisle

Grace (holding up some sugar-laced, chocolate, not-good-for-you cereal):  Mom, can I get this cereal?

Robyn:  No.

In the candy aisle

Grace:  Can I get this bag of candy?

Robyn:  No.

In the chip aisle

Grace:  Can I get these chips?

Robyn:  No.

In the produce section

Grace (tentatively):  Mom, will you buy me a cucumber?

Robyn (thinks for a second and checks the price--54 cents):  Ok.

Grace (surprised):  Really?

Robyn:  Yep.

At the check-out

Grace:  Can I get a pack of gum?

Robyn:  No.  I already got you something.

Grace:  Mom, you got me a VEGETABLE!!

Robyn (proudly): Yes, I did.


P.S.  It may be important to note that earlier Robyn had bought Grace two pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and some fruit roll-ups.
