Today after school
Nate: I ran the mile today am I'm not even sore.
Maddie: Oh yeah? What was your time?
Nate ignores the question.
Aimee: Well did you get under 15 minutes?
Nate nods.
Maddie: Did you get under 10 minutes?
Nate: No.
Aimee: Why not?
Nate (attempting to look humble and self-reproachful): Curse my soft heart.
Aimee: What?
Nate: Well, there was a boy who had a cramp so I stopped to help him and I walked with him for a little bit. I was helping him out so I didn't get a good time. It was worth it though.
